Xtreme Wheels 2010

Next to come was a fire up to let the visitors hear Nosferatu roar. We have found that when planning to start up our blown alky motor we need to make sure people are not staring down the headers, small children and animals are prepared and granny is wheeled around the corner. It has become quite a normal reaction that small children burst in to tears, several people run away and the men in the crowd get the same expression on their faces equal to seeing Gwen Stefani in a thong and nipple tassels (it’s true!). We certainly made some ears ring and got a nice round of applause from the people crowded around, followed by loads more questions.

Next up was the exhibition burnouts and this is where the weekend took a turn for the worse. We lined up with the other dragsters and the organisers
wanted us to run last as the finale to the live arena shows. With the motor fired up I gave the throttle few stabs to remind the crowd of our beast's tones, selected second gear and touched the throttle. The tyres instantly lit up and I held the burnout for a few seconds keeping in mind the disaster that happened earlier with Freddy’s Revenge. When I came off the throttle the car wiggled a little bit but no different to a burnout at Santa Pod. I backed up Nosferatu ready to do an agreed second burnout and hit the throttle again. After a couple of seconds the back end of the car made a big sudden move to the left so I came off the throttle and counter-steered in an attempt to straighten the car up, but with the momentum of the wheels still spinning the back end continued to step out, drifting the car towards the banking on the right.
I hit the brakes but it was too late. The front right corner of the car hit the bank and crumpled up the nose and the bonnet, which pressed on the throttle cable gunning the motor again, pushing the car harder into the bank damaging the bodywork even more. I killed the motor, shouted a few choice words and got out.
