The weeks leading up to the first meeting of the year are always tough for me. Five months of preparing the car and motor fill the off-season, but when I see the date of the first meeting drawing closer, the excitement builds with the thoughts of jumping back into the driving seat and hitting the throttle. So, at last we are at the strip and ready to run. Two and a half days into the first meeting of 2009 we finally had the call "Super Pro to the pairing lanes". Now it gets serious. The oil in the motor was warm and we were ready. A quick change into my race suit and boots, grab my helmet, gloves and neck brace, hook up the tow rope and we are off. On the way down I start to think about the run. Is the dial in okay? Have we forgotten anything? Well, it's too late now! When we get to the fire up road we can hear over the speakers that many of the racers are having trouble off the line with tyre shake and lack of grip so I start thinking about the burnout. I know that if the burnout is bad we get tyre shake and that can cause expensive damage, so I decide to go for a lengthy burnout...
